SilverTech joins Horizon House in their mission to end homelessness
The next organization to receive a $2,500 donation in honor of SilverTech’s 25th anniversary is the Horizon House! Our team in Indy voted for this organization because of the staff’s connection to this wonderful organization.
About Horizon House
Horizon House is a full-service agency that connects neighbors who are homeless with basic and integrated, comprehensive services. They provide a safe place for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Marion County, serving them with dignity and respect, as they take steps toward a more stable life. Homelessness is generally defined as staying in an emergency shelter, living in a place not meant for human habitation (i.e. outside, in a vehicle, abandoned house, “on the streets,” etc.).
As Indianapolis’ only multi-service day center exclusively serving the homeless, Horizon House opens its doors as a place of refuge and hope to anyone who is experiencing homelessness. Basic services such as day shelter, restrooms, showers, laundry, clothing, nourishment, and mail delivery are crucial for helping individuals maintain their dignity while meeting their immediate needs. These services change lives and empower individuals toward a more self-sufficient life.
SilverTech and Horizon House
We have seen the impact to the community that Horizon House provides. We are lucky to be able to give back to this organization that mean so much to our employees. We have team members that have volunteered at the Horizon House.
“I want to sincerely thank you for your gift of $2,500. Horizon House remains committed to our mission of serving those experiencing homelessness with dignity, hospitality, and respect. We appreciate your support of Horizon House and our mission of providing help, inspiring hope, and finding home for our neighbors experiencing homelessness!” Teresa Wessel, Executive Director.
SilverTech is proud to support the Horizon House. Thank you to the Horizon House, Homeless Veterans and Families (HVAF), United Way of Central Indiana, the City of Indianapolis, and others for their efforts to provide shelter and housing for the homeless.
Impact of Horizon House on Homelessness
These past few years have seen an increase in the number of homeless people in the Indianapolis area. Today, there are nearly 2,000 individuals experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis. Across the state of Indiana there are over 5,600 that are experiencing homelessness. The ultimate goal is to decrease these numbers.
Last year, Horizon House announced plans to develop a 36-unit permanent supportive housing development for individuals struggling with homelessness. This development is known as Compass on Washington and will include common space areas as well as office space dedicated services that include recovery support, independent living skills, and community integration.
Help, Hope, and Home in Numbers for 2020
The Street Outreach team allows for a connection to be formed with the homeless community building trust. Recently a neighbor experiencing homelessness, Amy, received regular check-ins by the Street Outreach team at the tent where she lives. Amy has been assigned a case worker, recently started working a new job, completed the assessment and paperwork for placement in permanent supportive housing and is currently on a waitlist. Amy said, “Thank you to those who gave money so Horizon House can get me what I need."
